
Fourth Consular Session - H.E. Angel Angelov - Consul General of Bulgaria in NYC

Dr. Angel Angelov is a senior Bulgarian diplomat and scholar of international relations with extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy and regional studies, particularly focusing on the Middle East, the Balkans, and Eastern Europe. Since 2022, he has served as Consul General of Bulgaria in New York, representing his country across nine Northeastern U.S. states. In 2023, he was elected Vice President for Europe I and a member of the Executive Board of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York.
Previously, Dr. Angelov headed the Middle East and North Africa Department at Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2021–2022) and spent more than a decade at the Permanent Mission of Bulgaria to the United Nations in New York (2008–2020), including service as Deputy Permanent Representative. He began his diplomatic career in 2006.
Alongside his diplomatic service, Dr. Angelov brings over two decades of academic and professional experience. He has served as a university lecturer in Europe and North America, a trainer of diplomats, an academic project leader, and a journalist. He holds a PhD in Political Science from Sofia University and postgraduate degrees from the University of Geneva, University of Bologna, and University of Athens. His academic fellowships include appointments as a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University, a Jean Monnet Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, and a Marie Curie Pre-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Kent, among others.
Dr. Angelov is the author of more than 40 publications and has spoken at over 100 international conferences, bridging the worlds of diplomacy, academia, and public policy.
