Thursday May 14, 2020 12 noon at NYC Health + Hospital Elmhurst located in the most ethnically diverse community in the world serving about a million people every year. But this apparent relative obscure community hospital was no longer to be with COVID-19 pandemic challenges the put New York City on the map as one of epicenters of coronavirus.

So today, united by common mission of building a better community and humanity, Foundation for Sustainable Community Development Initiative Inc. and the Rotary Club of New York joined hands for a "Thank You" to front-line staff at Elmhurst hospital regarded as one of the most adversely impacted in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

Under a bright sunny afternoon in front of Main entrance to Elmhurst Hospital on 79-01 Broadway in Elmhurst the stage was set through the combined effort of Rotary Club of New York and Queens-based 501.c3 nonprofit Foundation for Sustainable Community Development Initiative Inc. under the theme "Appreciation of Elmhurst Hospital Center's Essential Workers". Through the magnanimity of the Rotary Club of New York presenting donation to FSCDI Inc Elmhurst-based local diner was contracted to cater 100 individually packed lunches including vegetarian meals, salads and assorted beverages in the form of boxes of juices, sodas, and bottled waters. As the donations were carted away by staff, someone in the audience whispered ‘bless those who made this happen.”

Mr. Zimmerman the Chief Operations Officer represented Mr. Israel Rocha CEO of NYC Health +Hospitals Elmhurst welcome donation from Rotary Club of New York through Foundation for Sustainable Community Development Initiative Inc.

Others present included the following - Dr. Joseph R. Masci Chairman of Global Health at Elmhurst, George Leconte-Senior Associate Executive Director Ancillary Services and Claire J. Patterson Senior Associate Executive Director NYC Health + Hospitals Elmhurst.

This Elmhurst Essential Workers Appreciation event was graced by Hon. Jeffrion Aubry, Member New York State Assembly and current speaker Pro-Temp, who has represented Elmhurst for over 28 years was invited as Special guest and commended front-line staff helping during this pandemic challenge. He appreciated the front-line workers and presented $25 Gift Certificates in a large brown envelope.

In his brief remarks, Dr. George Onuorah, CEO, Foundation for Sustainable Community Development Initiative (FSCDI) Inc. expressed his organizations gratitude and appreciation towards front-line workers who labored under very difficult circumstances battling COVID-19 pandemic. Elmhurst Hospital is situated in one of the most ethnically diverse part of the world and serving about a million people yearly. Dr. Onuorah asserted his vision for starting FSCDI was born out of humanitarian impulse geared towards sustainable development goals and to make our world a better place.

The Mission of his 2-year-old Organization FSCDI is to empower and strengthen communities on a local and global level, specifically Africa, helping them engage in economic sustainability that will foster development and long term positive changes in the communities we serve.
