CAUCASIAN FRIENDSHIP DAYS
In March 2005, Rotary Club members from Tbilisi (Georgia), Baku (Azerbaijan), Yerevan and Gyumri (Armenia), California (District 5230 and 5300), New York (the Host Club of America and the United Nations) and District 2430 (Turkey) participated in the CAUCASIAN FRIENDSHIP DAYS. The event was held at the Bilkent Hotel in Ankara under the Chairmanship of District Governor Erhan Çiftçioglu.

Among the presentations and discussions were such things as: 

   The Role of Rotary Clubs in Promoting Regional Peace
   The Importance of NGOs in "Promoting Peace"
   The Importance of Regional Understanding
   The Role of Rotary in Regional Education and Culture
   Rotary's Regional Role in Promoting Youth and Friendship Programs
   Economic Development as a Conflict Resolution Tool

Behind these topics were Rotary's objectives to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service, high ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business , and community life; and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of

From this conference, a Declaration of Caucasian Friendship was created and issued. In addition to the principles above, it espouses the resolution for the Rotary Clubs of the participating countries to implement common projects, promote shared values and heritage, and to work with the private sector to encourage stability and harmony.
