Thankful Visitors
Just recently, several RCNY members were given a very priveleged tour of one of ICE's NY offices by ffriends from ICE who'd become familiar through their speaking engagement with us back in Mar 2019

Some Notes From Elira Karija
I'm Happy to add a few personal considerations from the tour.

Sonia and Darren had a warm welcome for us at their Office and introduced us with the other staff. Then we started a tour of the facility, offices, training center, ending at the detention area. Darren gave an extensive overview of their work illustrated by specific 'case studies' and anecdotal stories and kindly answered all our questions. Their work faces a lot of challenges, and mentioned not always pictured in the right way, is caring and involved with the different local communities. Their staff is very diverse - different cultural backgrounds.

ICE was created in 2003 through a merger of the investigative and interior enforcement elements of the former U.S. Customs Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service. ICE now has more than 20,000 law enforcement and support personnel in more than 400 offices in the United States and around the world.

The agency's assets are primarily devoted to three operational directorates — Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA). A fourth directorate – Management and Administration (M&A) – supports the three operational branches to advance the ICE mission.
