Human Trafficking

This event was put together jointly by the Rotaract Club at the UN, the Rotary Club of Harlem and the Rotary Club of New York. The presenters at the panel discussion on Human Trafficking were Mary Carparas, Project Manager at Womankind; Rachel Lloyd, President and Founder of G.E.M.S.; Lois Rowman, The Law Offices of Lois Rowman, Esq.; and Connor Cashel, Social Worker Anti Tracking/Safe Horizon.

They gave an overview of the legalistic side of human trafficking, the law enforcement aspects and the human tragedy behind it. They offered solutions along the line of early education, careful and long-term counseling and steadily consistent healing, and focusing on victim healing rather than prosecution and “hammer down solutions”. The moderators Anna Folz (Rotaract), and Dwayne Norris (Rotary Club of Harlem), guided the Q & A.

Thanks to our member and President-Elect Larry Cohen who helped in guiding and steering the event from the RCNY side. Ultimately about 100 attendees honored this very important topic.

Rachel Lloyd will be the honorable guest speaker at the Rotary Luncheon on March 14 at the Penn Club of NYC.
